Not everyone is willing to do this. If you not a DIY there not really any way to own an agog BMW inexpensively unless you get extremely lucky. It a game of odds, maybe one in one hundred 3 series are as reliable as your average Lexus IS 350. I much more comfortable rolling the dice on a Lexus.

Nearly all my neighbours are farmers and their children have been driving quad bikes, cars and tractors from about 10 years old mainly on private land.I’ve been driving and motorcycling since about 14 and the passion has never left me. For a long time I was the type that if you told me no, I’d want yes more often than not.I understand the comment about an emergency and hero, but while a 12 year old may be able to operate a car, surely they can have little or no knowledge of the rules of the road or other drivers or road conditions.
By my math, with the downpayment in 7 years, this would have lost you about $60k even at 5% interest on the money if you invested it. Is the BMW worth the $60k setback? My personal answer is no. I’d personally get a 15 20k certified used car you’d have a lot of options then.
Cool. Gently lifted will mean different things to different people why not include one of these scales and specify “10 lbs” or “5.5 lbs” when measured at a specific spot (“Belt tension should measure between 3.2 and 3.5 lbs when measured at the center of the rail”)? This would massively improve the assembly experience, repeatability, and future adjustments (Oh, my belt tension is only 2 lbs, better tighten that up/replace the belt).

The car would depreciate 20k in the next 5 years, and the cost would cut into OP savings early in his career. In 5 years OP might want to save for a home, have kids, etc. The handling and power are way poor compared to the 335 or any 5 series, and bmws are renowned for being sporty.

As I understand it the i3 had a lot larger depreciation than most other early electric cars. I don remember the research I did at the time tbh and my number was just spitballing, but early electric vehicles had a large depreciation due to the steep annual improvements in the tech, and on top of that, the BMW had even larger depreciation from other early electrics. In addition to that, the new i3s now are in a bit of a different competitive situation, since there is so much more competition in the new electric car space, so my guess is they have to be more competitive on price. So if you look at depreciation from a stand point of what can I get now new vs used for the same car, you totally right. From the perspective of what the 2015 cars are going for used vs what they cost in 2015, that a different story. Since we wanted to buy used at the time (though looking back I kinda sorta maybe wish we had just sprung for a model 3) the depreciation was attractive relative to other used options we were looking at

Just like having the engine running on a ICE car. So if the 12 battery is too dead to fire up the controllers the HV battery can be energized and therefore can be charged either. So the battery is likely not dead enough to have the car be completely dead (no door locks no nothing) but too dead to pull in the line contactor for the HV battery.
Sorry for the rant, I understand assembly manuals aren the easiest things to come up with from scratch. I didn order this with no expectation of some finicky stuff, tinkering, tuning, and so on that comes part and parcel with a machine you expected to assemble yourself. I sure that I be pleased once I actually get the machine running smoothly. But right now I definitely frustrated with some issues I didn expect given the price point.
Utilising the Chevy platform (Corvette C5 1997 2004), this car needs a few more parts to complete than the other Factory Five kits. If you’re on a budget, you can buy a donor car. If you have a large pile of cash under your bed, how about completely new and upgraded parts and a stock Chevy LS or even the beast that is the Corvette ZR 1 638bhp LS9 engine?
The Audi TT coupe does not have enough driver leg support. I am 5′ 7″ and had gotten used to very comfortable bucket seats in the Infiniti G35. The TT seats are shorter and do not extend far enough forward to provide the appropriate level of thigh support. I’ve tried adjusting the seat in every possible position to no avail. I also spent hours Googling to see if I could find seat extenders that would work with the TT and could not find any.
I had something similar happen. I hadn driven my rex in about a week. Then it was dead. Nothing worked, couldn unlock the car. All electrical was out.Because I knew it was the 12 volt battery, I took the battery out. Took it to BMW dealership and requested a new one.
